I opened it and it was fully charged. My husband picked it out for me on a day when I wasn't shopping for myself but I love it. The fact that it is magnetic is my favorite part. I have it stuck under my desk for emergencies (I'm a teacher). It's small enough I could also hang it on my lanyard if we lost power and had to move my class down a dark hall. Great gift in the $20 range.
